Having spent the past 72 hours pondering how to keep my Grandmother and her friend entertained whilst they were up too visit, I think I passed all tests with flying colours today.
Be a vibrant 23 year old male living in the city most of my spare time is spent either in the gym (as you know) or socialising with friends, pubs, clubs, casinos etc etc... for some reason I didn't think that would be the idea of fun for these 2 wonderful 65 year olds.
So with much deliberation I planned a walk not quite as long as the one I ended up on but it was a nice day and this is what we did.
Started along the Trent past the war memorial where I learnt my 2nd latin phrase "Vivit Post Funera Virtus" (Virtue outlives death) to the world famous "Trent Bridge Inn" to get some lunch before heading along the canal into town, up into Lace Market where they loved the stunning "St Mary's Church" and the Pitcher & Piano build into another old church.
We walked down through the town towards the castle, and checked out the awesome views from the cafe on the "upper bailey" (picked up some history lingo today as well) before heading up to the Ropewalk caves and back down to enjoy a cider at Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem
It was a wonderful day ended on a high with a fantastic meal in "Zizzi's" 6 hours after we started out, When I got home I was so intrigued as to the distance we walked so with thanks to www.walkjogrun.com I calculated our route and here it is.
The funny thing looking at the route is that it estimates a 2 and a half hour walk, which took us 6 with all the sightseeing, and the best part of it all I burnt nearly 700 calories doing it.
